Siren’s Are Calling: Mumford & Son’s “The Cave”

“The Cave” is so visually stimulating simply by listening to the song’s lyrics. I didn’t know which way to interpret the song. I didn’t know how to depict anything.

What I did know was that a music video for this song needed two perspectives. One of a man, and one of a woman – a woman I chose to illustrate as a Siren, from Greek and Roman myths. All my studies in Latin paid off in this moment.

I asked my best friend Emily Ross (who also starred in my music vid for Death Cab’s “Some Boys,” if you recall) to be that woman. The narrative, in its final form, doesn’t actually turn out as clearly as I wanted it to…something to work on for next time.

I love this video for how she acts the way she does. And the fact that it started pouring in the middle of filming.

We needed our own cave for shelter. Take a look.

  1. Fantastic blog! Do you have any tips and hints for aspiring writers?

I’m planning to start my own website soon but I’m a little lost
on everything. Would you recommend starting with a free
platform like WordPress or go for a paid option?
There are so many options out there that I’m totally overwhelmed .. Any suggestions? Thank you!

I'd love to hear your thoughts.
