Back in 2008, five members of the Forbes Flyers jump rope team, including myself, travelled to South Africa for the FISAC World Jump Rope Championships. We placed 3rd in overall double dutch.
I never actually posted this video series on YouTube for whatever reason, until now! Here is the 3 part documentary I made 5 years ago, featuring the competition, the safari, and all of our travels in Africa.
Oh, don’t forget to swoon at the lions.
Another year, another USA Jump Rope Nationals.
Third place team show, many of our teams and individuals competing at Grand Nationals…I’d say it was a good year.

2010 brought the Forbes Flyers to yet another national competition.
This time, I, and the two other high school seniors Stephanie Scoville and Heather Jolicoeur, were co-captains. As captains, we were in charge of crafting and choreographing this year’s team show. We grappled FOREVER with trying to find another theme to top our 3rd place finish last year from Grease.
The theme didn’t end up working out this year. Instead, we raved.
A 3rd place/bronze medaling rave. Second year in a row. Got “Fever”?

Nothing to say here except that this is one memory I will treasure for the rest of my life. I had the opportunity to march in the 2009 Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade as a member of Team USA for jump rope. The video below that I uploaded is from NBC’s coverage. I’m a little dot, so there’s no use in pointing me out.
Let’s just say I earned my turkey that night.

After our success at the 2009 USA Jump Rope National competition, some of us on the Forbes Flyers wanted to create a new epic group routine for future demonstrations we would do. I can’t tell you exactly how it happened, but we ended up settling on Coldplay’s “Viva La Vida” of all songs.
Don’t get me wrong – and you’ll notice in a few posts – but I’m one of Coldplay’s biggest fans. But I never thought I’d combine two of my greatest loves in life.
Coldplay and Jump Rope gave birth after a long labor. The baby rests below…

The year of 2009 brought on another national competition for the Forbes Flyers competitive jump rope team. And featured, at long last, a third place finish for our team in an event called team show.
We jazzed up team show this year and made it Grease-themed. What better way to win the judges over by making them dance in their seat, right?
Get some popcorn, folks.

After a year from the first and second jump rope promos, I decided wanted a break from Missing for a bit (the second season just ended…it wouldn’t be until the end of the year when I would revamp the series for its final season) and realized I wanted to make an even better promo. One that was short and to the point. Something that looked way more professional than the previous two did.
I gave myself a 90 second limit. I took all the footage I had and threw in my bag of tricks. Throughout the process, I realized one important thing that I would relearn later on in college: enter the scene late and leave early. That’s why I love this promo so much. I kept it tight.
It hasn’t been as popular over the years as the first two, but I’m so much prouder of this final promo for the Forbes Flyers than I am of the others.
Here we go:

I don’t have much to say about this video…since it’s not as if I did anything besides perform in the demo at Yale. The only exciting about it (and the fact that it’s jump rope!) is that after 3.5 years it almost has 10,000 views on YouTube!
And I present to you:

I received a lot of positive response and constructive criticism for my first promo , even though I cringe a bit (okay, a lot) when I look back on it. Soon after I released the promo, though, I realized I could do a lot better. I enlisted my fellow jump rope teammate Devin to help me out with the structure and soundtrack of the new promo.
There isn’t much else to say except that this one was much more popular than the first. The Forbes Flyers started using this one to promote our team at venues we performed.
And so I give you…

I’ve had my YouTube channel since May of 2007. Since then I’ve posted a number of videos that I’ve deleted from my uploads, namely a three-season series (comprised of 13 episodes) entitled Missing, which detailed the fictional events of what occurred when my cat Mr. Willy went, well…missing.
I began to take a more professional tone with my work when I began to create promotional videos for the Forbes Flyers, a national and international competitive jump rope team that I am a member of (yes, competitive jump rope exists, as you’ll see in a moment). With my first promo for the team posted in 2008, I saw a bit of success. Up until this moment, the promo has just under 1,500 views.
Missing lasted from 2007 until 2010, but I decided that represented my experimental days…so a DVD of the 13 episodes rests on my desk. I take it everywhere I go to remind myself of how I started and what I could do in the beginning.
This promo changed all of that.
